Forti named acting police chief in NLV

City Manager Kurt Fritsch announced today that Capt. Joe Forti will serve as the city's acting chief beginning Nov. 1.

Forti, 46, has been with the city's police department since May 1980. He will replace Chief Joey Tillmon, who is retiring. City officials will conduct a nationwide search to find a permanent replacement in the near future.

Tillmon, 48, announced his retirement in early October and has remained silent regarding any reasons for his departure. He became chief in 1997 and has worked for the department since 1980.
