Clark County Parks and Recreation's Walnut Community Center will host its annual "Trunk or Treat Safe Halloween" event 2:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Joshua Villas Apartments, 3985 E. Cheyenne Ave.
Children ages 3-16 can trick or treat from the trunks of cars, on CAT buses and fire engines, and at other vehicles parked on the facility grounds.
Carnival games, bounce houses, contests, arts and crafts and other Halloween related activities are planned. The event is free and open to the public. Call 212-2780.
Children can play as parents are tested
Rainbow Medical Center will hold its fifth Halloween Health Fair and Kids Carnival 2-6 p.m. Friday in the center's parking lot, 4920 Lone Mountain Road.
The event will feature free cholesterol screenings and blood pressure checks for adults attending while children can enjoy free treats, carnival games and a haunted "moon walk" jumping castle. Call 255-6659.
b>Adopt-A-Family, food drive planned
HELP of Southern Nevada is planning its annual Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive and the Adopt-A-Family/Toy Drive programs.
Applications are currently being accepted for both programs at the HELP of Southern Nevada offices, 953 E. Sahara Ave., Suite 208.
Through community support, HELP provides Thanksgiving food baskets to those who qualify, as well as assisting families in need of Christmas gifts and/or toys for their children.
The Adopt-A-Family program matches donors with families who need gifts for the holidays. Each family completes a wish list including ages of children, clothing sizes and education level. Call 369-4357.
Pharmacies collect for those in need
Rite Aid Pharmacies throughout Las Vegas and Henderson will have barrels located in each store for canned and boxed food to help the needy and homeless this holiday season.
Customers can drop off canned and boxed food at their local Rite Aid stores now through Dec. 14. The donations of food will benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada.
