Eighth annual gala planned at Venetian
The eighth annual Frederick Douglass Scholarship Fund gala will be held Thursday at the Venetian.
The event is the primary fund-raiser for the Frederick Douglas Scholarship Education Fund, which provides scholarships for students to attend college.
The keynote speaker will be journalist and television commentator Tony Brown, an advocate of economic policies that foster competitiveness and self-reliance.
Lillian McMorris, KVVU Channel 5 public affairs director, will be recognized for her professional commitment to the principals of love of community.

"It's Happening in Henderson,"
a tour sponsored by the city of Henderson and the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, will be 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday to view Henderson's newest commercial, private and public developments. Cost is $20. For more information, call 565-8951.
University Medical Center
will host a diabetes seminar for older adults at 2 p.m. Wednesday at its Family Resource Center, 1120 Shadow Lane. Dr. Milton Wong, endocrinologist, will provide information on the importance of diet and exercise in controlling diabetes. New treatment options will also be presented. To register, call 383-2095.
