More air guard members activated

CARSON CITY -- Nearly 50 airmen and noncommissioned officers of the Nevada Air National Guard were called to active duty today and are awaiting assignment.

Members of the 152nd Security Forces Squadron, which normally provides security for the Air National Guard base in Reno, are awaiting deployment orders, April Conway, public affairs officer for the National Guard, said.

So far, 415 members of the 2,850-member Nevada National Guard have been called to active duty.

Conway said 115 members are providing extra security at commercial airports in Nevada; another 100 military police went to California to provide security at a military training facility; 50 members of an intelligence squadron are on active duty awaiting orders; and 100 guardsmen are performing other security duties.
