Bowlers will help New York families
Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 | 9:45 a.m.
Las Vegas bowlers will gather Sunday at the Castaways hotel to raise funds for the families of firefighters and police killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on New York City.
Area bowlers will join a field of pro bowlers, celebrities, police and firefighters for the "God Bless America -- Bowl for Life" event at the Castaways bowling center, 2800 Fremont St. Action is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m.
Bowlers are being asked for a minimum donation of $20 to participate, with funds going to the Clark County Firefighters Burn Foundation, to be sent to various New York agencies helping families of emergency services victims.
For information about the event and reservations, call (702) 585-0065.
Also, the Castaways, in an effort to provide laid-off local workers with a recreational respite, is offering two free games of bowling to casino workers and their families.
All casino workers, employed or laid off, will be given the free games when they present their casino ID cards. However, Castaways officials say, the offer is based on lane availability at the 106-lane center, which is open round the clock.
