SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

CARSON CITY -- The first six persons have been approved to enter the medical marijuana program, the state Department of Agriculture said today.

Upon notification, the six individuals must obtain a card from the state Department of Motor Vehicles to show they legally can grow and possess the drug.

Cecile Crofoot, program administrator, said the six have received a recommendation from physicians and have been cleared by background checks.

So far, Crofoot said, nobody has been turned down. She has sent out applications to an estimated 500 people who want to be allowed in the program.
