Letter: What do jobless tell their kids?
Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 | 4:26 a.m.
Government officials' famous last words: "Get on with your life, let's show the terrorists that we will not be beaten." Seems easy to say when everyone making these statements are still employed.
"Get on with your life": How, when you get laid off from work and you're not even guaranteed your job when this is behind us? How dare our hotels send millions of dollars each to New York, then put their own people out of work.
I'm sympathetic just like the next person, but come on, there are other ways to show that you care.
Where do we go, how do we provide for our families? We cannot do it on sympathy and love. No, we need our jobs.
I don't know about anyone else, but now what? What do I tell my children? It's no, again. No, we have no job to do the fun things or get you Christmas gifts again. Dad is out of a job again -- because of someone else's neglect and carelessness.
