Letter: People are nicer since Sept. 11
Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 | 4:26 a.m.
A strange thing has happened since Sept. 11. I have noticed that more people are saying "thank you." Yes, more waiters and waitresses are using those words. Yes, more people in retail establishments are using these words.
Most importantly I have heard more people in general saying "thank you" and using nicer, friendlier words to one another. This certainly is a time when we all should be coming together and helping one another.
People all over the USA have suffered because of what happened on Sept. 11. Many people lost their jobs and many people who barely earned enough money to live have seen that income eroded. Astronomical rises in utility costs have hurt everyone and many people are losing their homes.
Yet with all of the problems, people seem to be treating each other in a kinder, more gentle way. I only hope that this attitude remains with us on a permanent basis. It certainly is nice to see people smiling and treating each other with respect. This is the way America should be.
