Support group plans its annual open house

Nevada Parents Encouraging Parents will hold its fifth annual open house 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at 2810 W. Charleston Blvd. to help parents learn about PEP, Nevada's Parent Training and Information Center.

There will be prizes and refreshements. PEP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families of children with disabilities. For more information, call 388-8899.

$5 dinner to honor Gronauer, Segerblom

The Paradise Democratic Club is sponsoring a $5 dinner with Constable Bobby "G" Gronauer and a Recognition Award presentation to Assemblywoman Gene Segerblom at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Culinary Training Center in the Days Inn Motel, 707 Fremont St.

The public is invited to attend. Democratic office holders, candidates, judges and labor leaders will be in attendance.

The Paradise Democratic Club periodically sponsors the $5 dinners with high ranking elected Democratic officeholders and candidates to allow the public a chance to meet and dine with them at a reasonable price.

Aviation foundation sets recruiting meeting

The Nevada Aviation and Aerospace Foundation will be recruiting young adults between the ages of 14 and 20 to become members of their Exploring program at 7 p.m. Monday in the Grand Canyon Room of the North Las Vegas Airport, 2730 Airport Drive. Post members will have the opportunity to attend ground school programs, take basic and advanced flights, learn to read aerial maps, use flight simulators, and learn about careers in aviation. Youth interested in attending the program are asked to call Post Advisor Charlie Braun at 480-3118.

Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April

will host its fifth annual Soire'e at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Four Seasons hotel. The formal dinner, including a silent auction, serves as the agency's annual fund-raiser. For more information, call 944-2464.

LV woman honored for work with kids

A Las Vegas woman is one of five people or groups honored Thursday by the Nevada Commission for National and Community Service for their volunteer work.

Starsha Hill, 18, was singled out for her work in the Stand Up for Kids Program, an outreach service to homeless youth in Southern Nevada.

"This is a time to recognize the great power and compassion of Nevada's volunteers who invest their time and talents in our state's future," Gov. Kenny Guinn said.

Others honored were the Nevada Bell Pioneers of Reno, who focused on educational needs for children, the disabled and elderly; Nevada Rural Counties R.S.V.P.; Jack Reviglio, who volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, and Chuck Rasco, chief of the Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department.
