Internet industry veteran Howard Lefkowitz on Wednesday was named president of Vegas.com, a big entertainment and information Internet portal serving Las Vegas.

Lefkowitz recently served as vice president of business development and Internet marketing at Internet giant EarthLink, where he was responsible for its commerce, content, communication and advertising strategies, as well as the user interface for its millions of customers.

Lefkowitz is also the operating partner for Washington Investment Partners, a private equity investment holding company.

Vegas.com is a major Las Vegas site for room reservations, entertainment, dining and casino gambling information. It serves more than half-a-million visitors per month. Vegas.com, citing PCData Online, said it ranks in the top 1 percent of all websites, based on unique visitor count.

Vegas.com is one of the Greenspun family's media businesses. Other family holdings are the Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas ONE, an all-news cable channel, and the newspaper and magazine publications In Business Las Vegas, Las Vegas Life magazine, Las Vegas Weekly, The Ralston Report, ShowBiz Japan, ShowBiz Weekly and VegasGolfer Magazine.

"We are excited to have Howard Lefkowitz's considerable expertise leading Vegas.com," said Brian Greenspun, head of the family's business operations. "He has been a pioneer in several fields and has been instrumental in building at least a couple of billion-dollar companies. This is the kind of experience we need to make Vegas.com a contributor to the town's continued growth and well-being."
