Male Athlete of the Week: DANIEL SCHLOSSER
School: Centennial
Class: Senior
Sport: Soccer
Last week: Schlosser, an exchange student from Germany, had two goals and five assists to lead the Bulldogs to Northwest Division wins over Mojave and Palo Verde. In Centennial's 5-1 victory over the Panthers Thursday, the center midfielder assisted on his club's first two scores, goals by Tyler Canada and Bren Valles, as the Bulldogs built a 2-0 lead. "He's had a big impact for us," Centennial coach Rick Kazee said. "He's doing a good job getting the ball to our forwards, and also helping hold down our defense. He's got an instinct for the game, and it's forced the other guys to pick their game up."
Female Athlete of the Week: GABY BACA
School: Valley
Class: Sophomore
Sport: Tennis
Last week: Baca, the Vikings' No. 1 singles player, won all seven of her sets to help her squad to regular season wins over Chaparral and Desert Pines and a victory over Coronado in the first round of the Sunrise Region playoffs on Saturday. With the wins, Baca ran her season singles record to a perfect 34-0. "She's very aggressive and she mixes up her shots well," Valley coach Debbie Wilson said. "She's just mentally tough, and has the confidence to win every time she plays."
