NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

Boaters continue to fare well for striped bass while shore fishing is finally showing some signs of life for stripers in the Boulder Basin.

Early this week a bank fisherman reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife that stripers were boiling early in the mornings south of Hemenway Point. Boils occur when stripers feed on threadfin shad.

Casting surface lures and still fishing with anchovies have been productive for catching stripers from shore.

Boaters have been having good success in recent days for stripers at the Hemenway Wall, Boxcar Cove, Saddle Cove, Black Island, the 33 Hole and outside the tires at Las Vegas Bay Marina. Surface plugs and downrigging at 30 to 40 feet are the methods boaters are using to catch the fish.

NDOW creel census clerks checked very few striped bass over the weekend in the Overton Arm. Largemouth bass were being caught north of Overton Beach Marina and around Fish Island.

LAKE MOHAVE: Rainbow trout that measure around 12 inches are being caught after the weekly plants at Willow Beach. This week's plant is scheduled to take place on Friday.

Boaters have reported catching striped bass below Willow Beach. Stripers that measure 10 to 11 inches have been caught recently in the narrows above Cottonwood Cove. An 11-pound channel catfish was caught over the weekend in Cottonwood Basin.

NDOW game wardens are cautioning boaters to be extremely careful due to low water conditions on the lake. Submerged reefs are now just beneath the lake's surface.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Rainbow trout are now active because water temperatures have dropped to around 60 degrees. Largemouth bass are being caught at Haymeadow Reservoir and the upper end of Adams-McGill Reservoir.

Duck hunting opens on Saturday, so a large number of hunters are expected to be on the area.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Fishing has been good for rainbow trout that were stocked several weeks ago. Weed growth in the lake continues to dissipate, which has increased success for shore anglers.

Dan Syphus of Las Vegas said he had good success for brown trout late last week. He caught the fish with a Crocodile lure.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: The water level is now extremely low due to low inflows. Fishing has been fair recently for stocked rainbow trout.

BASSETT LAKE: James Loser of Las Vegas told NDOW that he and a fishing companion caught and released 10 northern pike last Friday. The fish measured 10-12 inches and were caught with spoons and spinners.

NDOW cautions anglers to be extremely careful when handling pike because the fish have extremely sharp teeth. The lake is located five miles northwest of McGill off U.S. 93.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS: Channel catfish were stocked by the Nevada Division of Wildlife recently into Sunset Park, Lorenzi Park, and Floyd Lamb State Park.

Rainbow trout were stocked into Cold Creek pond last week.
