Letter: We are justified in our response
Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001 | 8:45 a.m.
I am an American. And right now I am very proud to be one. Not only because of our past record, but mostly because of our president, George W. Bush, and because our people have conducted themselves as Americans ought to.
Sunday, as promised, we brought a measure of justice upon those who have made terrorism a way of life for themselves. Haven't we been patient toward them, haven't we begged of them a change in their hearts over all these years? But they have refused and this time have boldly pushed once too hard. We are justified in our response.
But our response has shown our love of truth and love toward our enemies. The golden rule is alive in us. Bless them who curse you, do good to them who hate you, and pray for them who spitefully use you and persecute you.
Under those conditions that these terrorists have brought us, our response is surely unprecedented in all history by any righteous people, or otherwise.
It has been said that this land of America is a land choice above all other lands of this Earth. It has also been said, that because this land is so choice, those that live upon it must serve the God of this land or they will be swept off if they should become an unrighteous people and turn away altogether from that God who is Jesus Christ.
