Letter: Hotels treat workers, local residents badly

Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001 | 8:45 a.m.

I am in disbelief that hotels are donating money for relief and laying off their own people. This is like a slap in the face to residents who work for the hotel industry.

How they can do this and have a clear conscience is beyond me. I can only imagine how the residents of Las Vegas here must feel. They are the ones who spend their money here, not elsewhere, to help keep the economy of our town afloat.

I sincerely think this will hurt our economy. This sends a clear message across the board. Hang on to your money, you could be the next person to be laid off, and no one cares whether you can make your mortgage payment, or feed your family, or have medical insurance.
