Woman takes plea agreement

Slightly more than a month after her boyfriend was sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of a tourist at the Stratosphere, a woman has entered a plea agreement.

Jamie Shuey, 24, avoided a possible death sentence by pleading guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of robbery in connection with the May 2000 death of Stephen Nally, 42, and an earlier robbery, Deputy Special Public Defender Kristina Wildeveld said.

As a result of the deal, Shuey will receive a 22-year to life sentence on Nov. 21 in District Judge Sally Loehrer's courtroom, Wildeveld said.

Prosecutors allege Shuey lured Nally into a room at the Stratosphere with promises of sex or drugs, and Val Stallworth, 46, strangled and robbed him.

Stallworth in August was convicted and sentenced to a no-parole life term in connection with Nally's death and the earlier non-fatal robbery.

NLV man, 37, will face trial

A 37-year-old North Las Vegas man has been bound over for trial in the June slaying of a 25-year-old man.

Justice of the Peace Deborah Lippis Monday found that there is enough evidence to try Robert Lee Austin in the barroom slaying of Charles B. Fields.

Fields, who is one of more than a dozen North Las Vegas residents to be gunned down as the result of gang violence this year, was found shot to death in the men's bathroom at the Heritage Lounge, 1012 W. Owens Ave., on June 21.

Austin will be arraigned Oct. 16 by District Judge Michael Cherry on an open murder charge. He is being held on $200,000 bail in the Clark County Detention Center.
