SCORE schedules start-up workshop
The Las Vegas Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present the next "How to Really Start Your Own Business" workshop at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Foley Federal Building, 300 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 1100.
The SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, the business plan an a check list for licensing, permits and other requirements. The $45 cost includes a 292 page reference manual and a workbook to help analyze your business idea.

Screenings planned at King center
The Economic Opportunity Board's Martin Luther King Senior Center, 2420 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., is offering the Fall Senior Health and Wellness Fair at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 and 17 at the center for seniors 55 years of age or older.
Admission is free. Screenings to be provided: Hearing Evaluations; Vision Testing; Glaucoma Testing; Glucose Testing; Blood pressure/ Physican Consult; Facials; Reflexology; Massage Therapy; Body Fat Analysis; Health care information; Art/Crafts displays; Osteoporosis; Memory Testing; Foot Care Clinic; Osteopathic Evaluation.
Free continental breakfast and lunch tickets will be available at door. For more information, call 647-2536.
Governor's dinner to honor Nevadans
Gov. Kenny Guinn will be joined by the National Points of Light CEO Bob Goodwin at 6 p.m. Thursday in Harrah's Convention Center to honor five Nevadans at the Governor's Inaugural Points of Light Award dinner.
This year's recipients are: Nevada Bell Pioneers, Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program; Jack Reviglio, Sparks; Starsha Hill, Las Vegas; and Chuck Rasco, Lovelock.
The winners represent the business and nonprofit sectors, and individuals from northern, southern, and rural Nevada. Tickets are $125. Proceeds will go toward developing volunteer efforts throughout Nevada. For more information, call (775) 423-1461.
