Charles H. Atkinson II

Charles H. Atkinson II, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born April 4, 1925, in Graham, Texas. A resident for 24 years, he was a retired Department of Energy engineer and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara B.; one daughter, Diane Toburen of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons, Thomas Atkinson of Mesa, Ariz., and George Atkinson of Reston, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Harry Hart Austin Jr.

Harry Hart Austin Jr., 74, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born June 1, 1927, in Montana. A resident for 72 years, he was a hotel shift manager and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by one son, Jeffrey C. Austin of Phoenix; and one grandchild.

Verlene Crofts Ayers

Verlene Crofts Ayers, 56, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born April 19, 1945, in Orderville, Utah. A resident for 10 years, she was a bookkeeper and secretary for several local construction companies.

She is survived by one daughter, Don D'Lee Martin of Las Vegas; her mother, Everetta Crofts of Orderville; two brothers, Bernell Crofts of Orderville and Randy Crofts of South Haven, Miss.; three sisters, LaRue Slaugh of San Diego, Loretta Johnson of Fredonia, Ariz., and Julie Barney of Escalante, Utah; and three grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Orderville. Mosdell Mortuary, Kanab, Utah, is handling arrangements.

James Edward Byrne

James Edward Byrne, 72, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Canada. A resident for 12 years, he was a salesman for a metal machinery company and a veteran of the Canadian Navy.

He is survived by three sons, Timothy Kevin, James Michael and Christopher Patrick; one brother, Bill; one sister, Doris; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

James W. Day Sr.

James W. Day Sr., 69, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Jersey City, N.J. A resident for 21 years, he was a retired general contractor and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Carol M.; four sons, James Day Jr., Richard Day and Mark Day, all of Henderson, and David Day of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Robert T. Greenhalge

Robert T. Greenhalge, 91, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born July 1, 1910, in Boston. A resident for 23 years, he was a foreman for Howard Hughes Aircraft, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by one son, Edward Merkel; and one grandchild.

Henri A. LaFerriere

Henri A. LaFerriere, 83, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born April 9, 1916, in Fall River, Mass. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a World War II Coast Guard veteran.

He is survived by one niece, Donna Frye of San Pedro, Calif.

Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling private arrangements.

Eliza Levert

Eliza Levert, 89, of Las Vegas died Sept. 27 in North Las Vegas. She was born May 20, 1912, in Alabama. A resident for many years, she was a retired teacher's assistant in a private school.

She is survived by two nieces, Rosalyn Hill and Cheryle Oatman, both of Euclid, Ohio.

Visitation is scheduled noon-4 p.m. Sunday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

Mary K. O'Connell

Mary K. O'Connell, 92, of North Las Vegas died Thursday in an assisted living facility. She was born Dec. 14, 1908 in New York City. A resident for seven years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Robert J. O'Connell and Brien F. O'Connell, both of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 4519 Simmons St., North Las Vegas. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Cynthia A. Park

Cynthia A. Park, 52, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born May 10, 1949, in St. George, Utah. A lifelong resident, she was a homemaker and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She is survived by her husband, James L.; one daughter, Leslie Park of Las Vegas; her mother, Sylvia Bowler-Potter of Mesquite; five sisters, Sandra Pacheco and Clesta Molina, both of Las Vegas, Mona Rae Truman of Enterprise, Utah, Julie Houston of Mesquite and Barbara Bauer of Palo Cedro, Calif.; and one brother, Jimmy Bowler of Amargosa Valley.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Harold W. 'Pat' Patterson

Harold W. "Pat" Patterson, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 49 years, he was a retired Air Force master sergeant and World War II veteran who served for 21 years, spent many years at Nellis Air Force Base in civil service jobs and was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.

He is survived by two daughters, Carole Greenberg and Shirley Kaye Wilson, and one son, Gary L. Patterson, all of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 11:30 a.m. services Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Cornelia 'Connie' Pendergrass

Cornelia "Connie" Pendergrass, 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born July 13, 1923, in Chester County, S.C. A resident for 60 years, she was an industrial hygienist and a homemaker, a member of the Pastors Aide, the Mother's Board and an usher.

She is survived by two sons, Willie Gene Pendergrass and Matthew Pendergrass, and one daughter, Betty Wilson, all of Lorain, Ohio; one sister, Sarah Walker of Hollywood, Fla.; one brother, Grover Worthy of Philadelphia; and his special friend, Gilda Ray of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday in Harrison-Ross Mortuaries, 2071 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will be in Ohio.

John Michael (Birdwell) Posey

John Michael (Birdwell) Posey, 48, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. He was born July 2, 1953, in Pratt, Kan. A resident for 12 years, he was a card dealer, an Army veteran and a member of the Screen Actors Guild.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Birdwell of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; one sister, Judeth Badgley of Yuma, Ariz.; and one brother, Weldon Birdwell of Billings, Mont.

Gilbert C. Pries

Gilbert C. Pries, 86, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local care center. He was born Sept. 5, 1915, in Chicago. A resident for four years, he was a retired template maker in the aviation industry.

He is survived by one daughter, JoAnne Banker, and one son, Gil Pries, both of Henderson; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Carolyn J. Schivo

Carolyn J. Schivo, 66, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born May 23, 1935, in Las Vegas. A resident for 44 years, she was an artist and a member of the Nevada Water Color Society.

She is survived by three sons, Gerald Arling and Gary A. Arling, both of Las Vegas, and Larry T. Arling of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; one daughter, Sherry Johnson of Coeur D-Alene; her mother, Enid Burns of Kent, Wash.; two sisters, Joann Zitvay of Mercer Island, Wash., and Becky Waipa of Hilo, Hawaii; two brothers, Bruce Burns of Kent and Mike Kertulla of Bremerton, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

Joseph W. Sears Jr.

Joseph W. Sears Jr., 63, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 5, 1937, in New Jersey. A resident for 10 years, he was a truck driver for Reynolds Electrical and Engineering Co. and a member of the Teamsters Union.

He is survived by his wife, Mitzi; two sons, Joe Sears of Beatty and Wayne Sears of Wheatfield, Ind.; two godsons, James Sears of Shelby, Ind., and Ricki Sears of Roselawn, Ind.; one goddaughter, Kim Dzikowksi of Colorado; one sister, Carol McNorton of Indiana; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 1-3 p.m. Saturday in Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Road. Burial will follow in Grand View Cemetery.

Orland Setzkorn

Orland Setzkorn, 80, of Pahrump died Monday in Pahrump. He was born June 6, 1921, in Kansas. A resident for 20 years, he was a self-employed cook for 15 years and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Darryl Setzkorn of Pahrump and Galen Setzkorn of Phoenix; one daughter, Deane Lusenby of Liberal; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be arranged by Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 S. Vicki Ann Road.

Marjorie A. Smith

Marjorie A. Smith, 66, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 12, 1935, in Denver. A resident for 24 years, she was a hotel housekeeper.

She is survived by three daughters, Judy Imler of Las Vegas, Bonnie Hinckle of Boulder City and Heather Gray of North Las Vegas; one son, Howard L. Skelton of San Diego; two sisters, Linda Wood of Poway, Calif., and Barbara Stafford of Corpus Christi, Texas; one brother, Mickey Freeman of Las Vegas; and 14 grandchildren.

Barbara May Williams

Barbara May Williams, 82, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was a retired administrative assistant.

She is survived by one son, Forrest D. Williams of Fairfax, Va.; one brother, Larry May of Henderson; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. services Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Graveside services will follow in Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road.
