Insurer cuts 160 Vegas jobs

Texas Health Choice, Las Vegas-based Sierra Health Services Inc.'s money-losing Texas subsidiary, will leave the Dallas-Fort Worth market later this year, putting 280 people out of work, including 160 in Las Vegas.
The company has negotiated an agreement with AmCare Health Plans Inc., Houston, to take over coverage for Texas Health Choice's 30,000 customers.
Last year, Sierra signed a similar deal with AmCare to handle customers in Houston when Sierra reorganized its Texas operations. During the reorganization, Sierra moved several administrative positions to Las Vegas and those are the positions being phased out in Sierra's latest move.
The 160 Las Vegas positions will be eliminated over the next three months, with full-time customer service and claims processing positions representing most of the jobs.
