Teens invited to Sprint open house

Teenagers with an interest in telecommunications, computers and business management are invited to an open house 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sprint, 330 S. Valley View Blvd.

The open house is to recruit new members for Sprint's Explorer Post 530, a career centered program for girls and boys between the ages of 14 and 20. Post members will learn about the telecommunications industry, computers, high-speed data processing, and business management through hands on training, workshops, mentoring and special activities. Grand opening planned in NLV

A grand opening celebration for the Owens Senior Housing Development has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the site of the development, 1626 Davis Place.

It is the first of its kind in North Las Vegas and provides affordable housing for seniors who are at or below 45 percent of the area median income. The project is the first phase of a larger development that will upgrade the area with two renovated parks and 70 additional senior housing units.

Sun City Anthem plans Saturday event

Sun City Anthem residents invite the public to their "community garage" sale from 7 a.m.-noon Saturday at Del Webb's Sun City Anthem Center parking lot, 2450 Hampton Road, to benefit Edna Hinman Elementary school.

Items such as antiques, books, appliances, clothing, tools, and handmade crafts will be for sale. Admission is free. Call Sean Ross at 914-4006 or 525-6527.

Salon joins with community schools

Euphoria Salon and Day Spas will join the efforts of Johnson Community Schools to educate young women on issues of cosmetology at 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Community School, at Alta and Buffalo drives.

In addition to instruction, students will receive written materials and a bag of hair, skin, and nail products. Sue Bento, A Euphoria cosmetologist, will serve as program coordinator as well as class instructor.

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill

of Nevada, a voluntary group working to support the interest of individuals and their families who are impacted by mental illness, invites the community to a food and music fest and special program to honor the determination and courage it takes to face each day with mental illness at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Park. Four free parenting seminars,

including "How To Talk To Your Kids About Tragedy," will be held 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at MountainView Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way. Each 20-minute seminar will be offered in morning and afternoon sessions during the event and will cover a variety of parenting concerns and a Q and A segment. The event and activities are free.
