Search on for shooting suspect
Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 | 10:43 a.m.
Henderson Police continued this morning searching for a man who shot at an officer Tuesday.
The officer's car was struck several times, but the officer was not injured, said Officer Terry Bowler, a department spokesman.
Several leads are being followed, but no suspect has been arrested. Police also suspect there may have been a second man in the truck at the time of the shooting, Bowler said.
While driving behind a white F-150 pickup about 4 a.m. on Sunset Road near Eiger Way, the officer ran a computer check on the license plate. The plate was registered to a different car, Bowler said.
The officer turned on the police car's lights to pull the driver over, but the driver made a U-turn and fired seven to nine shots at the officer, police said.
The driver fled in the truck. The officer's patrol car stalled as a result of the bullets. The truck was later found in a nearby business area.
Police did not release the name of the officer this morning.
The driver was described as a white man, with long brown hair and possibly wearing a baseball cap. He also may have had tattoos on his arm.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Henderson Police at 565-8933 or Secret Witness at 565-5555.
