Letter: Terrorism is here to stay
Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 | 8:45 a.m.
If you believe we can stop terrorism in its tracks, you better wake up, or it's very possible you could become the next victim.
It does not take millions of dollars to become a terrorist. Tim McVeigh proved that.
The sad truth is the terrorists achieved their objective -- they murdered thousands, hurt millions, and our way of living has changed. We have lost freedoms, and we will lose more.
In the last 10 years, we have seen two high-profile acts of terrorism, one over politics, one in the name of God -- nothing new here.
What is new is the high number of people murdered.
Terrorists want people to know what they did. Osama bin Laden said on TV he didn't do it, but his people know he did it. He walks freely among his people, not as a terrorist, but as a hero.
McVeigh told others of his plans and became a hero to anti-government groups. Gangs have become increasingly violent in the last 20 years. They are terrorists, yet we haven't been able to stop them. Terrorism is here to stay, get use to the idea.
