Hotel-casino reduces employee hours

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 | 9:32 a.m.

The Imperial Palace hotel-casino announced Monday it is reducing the work hours of its 2,500 employees to four days per week in response to a citywide slowdown in tourism.

Because of the temporary reduction to 32-hour work weeks, layoffs are currently not planned at the Strip resort, general manager Ed Crispell said in a statement. Hours will be restored to normal once business improves, Crispell said.

A slowdown in the city's tourism industry following terrorist attacks Sept. 11 has prompted Strip casinos to lay off at least 11,000 workers in the past three weeks. And many workers have had their hours reduced.
