No. 2 Las Vegas carrier plans sale to lure customers

America West Airlines, the second-busiest air carrier at McCarran International Airport, is selling tickets at discounted rates to attract customers to fly.

Tempe, Ariz.-based America West is offering $68 round-trip fares on some routes. Among the ticket prices for Las Vegas routes: $68 for a round trip to San Diego, $70.50 to Los Angeles, $81.50 to San Francisco and $198 to Indianapolis.

Sale tickets must be bought by Oct. 11 for travel through Jan. 11. A three-day advance purchase and one-night stay are required.

America West, which cut 10 flights from its Las Vegas schedule in a 20 percent reduction of service and laid off 2,000 employees nationwide, now has 74 daily flights at McCarran.
