Letter: Why is U.N. flag superior to ours?

Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 | 8:52 a.m.

I hate people who burn the American flag to make a political statement. I'm sure you do, too.

These linguistically and mentally challenged persons, who can't express themselves in free speech, are using the symbol of our freedoms, for which many have sacrificed their lives, to make a statement. The U.S. Supreme Court and the Senate have said their nonverbal communication is protected by the First Amendment as free speech.

The reason we hate them is because they are using the ultimate symbol of America to make their statement.

I have three questions: Why can the United Nations' flag fly on a higher plane than the American flag? Why is this approved under our flag etiquette? What is the statement when the United Nations' flag is superior to our flag?
