Hawaiian visitation strong

Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 | 9:39 a.m.

HONOLULU -- The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks have had a devastating impact on the number of visitors coming to Hawaii, but Hawaii residents apparently are still continuing their trips to Las Vegas.

Thousands of casino workers in Las Vegas have been laid off because of few visitors. But some Las Vegas hotels frequented by Hawaii visitors have had hardly any layoffs.

Rob Stillwell, a spokesman for Boyd Gaming Corp., said his company has had only a few layoffs. Boyd Gaming runs the California Hotel and Casino and several other hotels and casinos.
