Symphony teams with area teens for concert

To help set the holiday spirit, the Nevada Chamber Symphony will perform Christmas favorites Tuesday at the Winchester Community Center with guest artists from the Las Vegas Academy of Performing Arts.
"We want to do something very lighthearted for Christmas -- nothing heavy," said Rodolfo Fernandez, the dynamic conductor and musical director of the symphony.
The bubbly mix of seasonal favorites will include "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," "Let it Snow," "Here Comes Santa Claus" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
This is the second year that the symphony will team with academy singers to present the holiday program. The Las Vegas Academy Madrigal Singers will sing with the symphony on such songs as "Candlelight Carol" and "Choral Fantasy."
"Then they are going to sing a number of pieces a capella," Fernandez said. "One of them is a beautiful version of 'Ava Maria.' "
The show will end with the two groups performing Handel's "Halleluja Chorus."
The Nevada Chamber Symphony opened its 17th season Nov. 8. Its next performance is scheduled for Jan. 17.
