Sun business staff to merge with sister paper
Friday, Nov. 30, 2001 | 10:05 a.m.
The Las Vegas Sun and its sister publication, the weekly newspaper In Business Las Vegas, today announced plans to merge their business news reporting and editing staffs.
The announcement was made by Michael J. Kelley, managing editor of the Sun, and Bruce Spotleson, publisher of In Business.
In addition to his responsibilities at the Sun, Kelley will be responsible for the news content of In Business. Spotleson will continue to direct the business operations of In Business.
Sun Business Editor Steve Green will lead the combined business reporting team that will result from the merger, while In Business Managing Editor Kirk Kern will continue in that position and will become assistant business editor of the Sun.
Kelley said the merger will strengthen both publications.
The Sun's strong resources in gaming and tourism coverage, for example, will enhance coverage of those industries in In Business. In Business reporters -- already known for strong coverage of real estate, finance and utilities -- will employ their expertise for improved coverage of these areas in the Sun, he said.
"This move will bring additional depth and expertise to the editing and reporting in both publications. Our readers will be the winners," Spotleson said.
