How Congress appropriated money for Nevada

Here is a look at some of the federal money Congress approved -- or is likely to soon approve -- for Nevada:

Agriculture:

* $500,000 for the Nevada Arid Range Lands Initiative -- continued work on cheat grass control, fire rehabilitation, field tests of low-water use crops.

Military Construction:

* $19 million for purchase of 220 acres for Nellis Air Force Base.

* $12.6 million for war games control center.

Treasury/U.S. Post Office:

* $27 million for Foley Federal Building, including money for security upgrades and courtroom renovations.

Commerce/Justice/State:

* $1.5 million to upgrade 911 emergency response system in Las Vegas.

Veterans Affairs/Housing Urban Development:

* $750,000 for child care and beauty services program in Las Vegas.

* $700,000 for a hospitality industry job training facility in Las Vegas.

* $150,000 for Boulder City's Parks and Recreation Department.

Interior:

* $750,000 for Lake Mead/Mojave Environmental Research Institute for environmental research on lake watersheds; PILT payments.

Transportation: (lawmakers have not yet approved the bills, but the Nevada projects are likely to be approved)

* $9 million to widen U.S. 95 near Laughlin.

* $8 million for Hoover Dam bypass bridge project to ease traffic delays on dam.

* $8.2 million for monorail project.

* $2.2 million for bus system software.

* $2 million for continued planning for proposed magnetic levitation train route between Las Vegas and Anaheim.

* $2 million for global positioning system for approaches/departures at McCarran International, North Las Vegas and Henderson airports.

* $5 million for an air traffic control tower at McCarran.

* $6 million for new buses to run along North Las Vegas Boulevard.

* 3 million for traffic efficiency technology.

* $8 million for improvements to the interchange of I-15 and St. Rose Parkway.

* $1 million for work on the I-215 Southern Beltway to Henderson.

Nevada also gets $204 million for highways and interstates through a funding formula administered by the Department of Transportation.

Energy:

* $6 million for county governments to oversee the proposed federal nuclear waste project at Yucca Mountain.

* $2.5 million for Yucca oversight.

* $5 million for UNLV/UNR research for the U.S. nuclear weapons program.

* $2 million for the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Nellis.

* $1 million for state of Nevada's Tumor Registry to improve public health records for a population with potential exposure to low-level radiation.

* $2 million to install exhibits at the Atomic Testing History Institute.* $725,000 for lower Las Vegas Wash wetlands studies and restoration plans.

* $100,000 for Las Vegas Wash/Monson Channel project in North Las Vegas.

* $30 million for construction of the Tropicana and Flamingo washes flood control project.

* $1.4 million for Lake Mead/Las Vegas Wash restoration project.

* $1.5 million for Southern Nevada water recycling project.

Test Site (also DOE):

* $10 million for counter-terrorism training for officials nationwide.

* $4 million for engineering and design of a new subcritical experiment facility.

* $6.2 million for Site bus upgrades, electrical power systems safety and communications.

* $2 million for roadways.

* $4.4 million for environmental restoration and waste management at site.

* $4 million to improve understanding of ground water flow under the site.

* $3 million to develop, deploy micro sensors for environmental monitoring.

* $6 million for UNLV research and development for nuclear waste disposal.
