Friday, Nov. 30, 2001 | 11:49 a.m.
Nearly 500 competitors will converge on Las Vegas this weekend with their motorized scooters to take part in the sixth annual Go-Ped Racing World Finals at the Circus Circus hotel-casino.
Sanctioned by the Motor Scooter Racing Association of Canton, Ohio, the nationally televised championship sporting event will be held in a purpose-built Peditorium on the parking lot on the west side of the hotel.
The biggest stars in the sport will be among the competitors, including three-time defending Pro World Champion Tim Patmont, Willie Handy, Brandon Currie and Josh Luinstra.
With speeds reaching 40 mph, racing in the Peditorium will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday and will continue until 5 p.m. each day. Qualifying for all classes will be held on Saturday and the main events will be held Sunday.
Admission is free and pit passes will be available for $10 each, per day, at the gate.
