Company shifting donation strategy
Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 | 10:24 a.m.
MGM MIRAGE employee donations will no longer be directed exclusively through United Way of Southern Nevada, company officials said.
Employees of the Las Vegas casino giant, who donated $1.9 million to the United Way during this year's campaign, will still be able to select the United Way as a beneficiary of payroll deductions. But they will have other choices as well next year, MGM MIRAGE spokesman Alan Feldman said.
"United Way does an absolutely magnificent job of analyzing needs in the community, collecting and distributing funds," Feldman said. "They do have certain requirements on how those monies are spent. We have the option now of going beyond that, and by doing this, we'll increase our giving to the community, because we'll absorb the overhead costs."
