NAACP loses appeal of suspension

Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001 | 9:27 a.m.

District Judge Sally Loehrer dashed the hopes of local NAACP members Tuesday by ruling that the national chapter provided them adequate notice of a meeting to discuss the suspension of their chapter.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People suspended the local chapter last month for violating the organization's policies and procedures.

It was the second time the group had done so. The group's first decision to do so in April was overturned by Loehrer, when she ruled that officials hadn't given the local chapter enough notice of the suspension.

On Tuesday the local chapter again alleged they weren't given an agenda of the meeting, which was held in Los Angeles, and asked Loehrer to halt the suspension and hold the national group in contempt.

Loehrer upheld the suspension and denied the motion to hold the group in contempt.
