Former Albertson’s CEO named to board

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 | 9:32 a.m.

Gary Michael, former chairman and chief executive officer of grocery store operator Albertson's Inc., has been named to the board of Harrah's Entertainment Inc., the Las Vegas-based casino operator announced.

Michael stepped down from the top post at Boise, Idaho-based Albertson's in April. He previously served as chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, and is currently a director of natural gas company Questar Inc. and Boise Cascade Corp., a supplier of paper, wood and office products.

Michael fills the seat vacated by Sue Clark-Johnson a year ago. Clark-Johnson is the publisher of the Arizona Republic and former publisher of the Reno Gazette-Journal, both owned by Gannett Co. Inc.

Harrah's has an 11-member board. Nine of the seats are held by outside members; the two company officials on the board are Phil Satre, chairman and chief executive, and Gary Loveman, president and chief operating officer.
