No fine levied against casino operator over explosion

ATLANTIC CITY -- Atlantic City fire officials will not fine a casino company whose Fourth of July display ended in a fire and explosion on the barge used as a launching platform.
Park Place Entertainment Corp. of Las Vegas had contracted with Bay Fireworks of Huntington Station, N.Y., to provide the display. The fire occurred at the end of the show, and some spectators thought it was part of the display.
Bay Fireworks was fined $13,800 by the city Fire Department, but there was confusion last week over whether Park Place would also be sanctioned. Fire Inspections Chief James Foley, though, said the casino company would not be fined.
Bay Fireworks, which has appealed the fines, was cited for storing fireworks improperly, allowing debris to accumulate and failing to outfit technicians with life jackets.
