Letter: Boom boxes create hazard

Monday, Nov. 26, 2001 | 8:52 a.m.

Since we still have an emphasis on cellular phones creating unsafe driving and creating accidents, I think it's only fair for the bureaucrats not to throw stones and also get rid of these boom boxes.

I'm not a cell phone user and I agree with what the bureaucrats summarize as an answer only to lesson accidents, but I've already experienced not hearing sirens on side roads because of excess noise from music.

We have laws in effect locally to cite phone users as it states the driver has to have two hands on the wheel and be in control of the vehicle. We also have ordinances on excess noise if they would put them to use. New ordinances are not needed. Boom boxes are affecting people all around them.

Metro is the only police department advertising on TV that you will be cited for loud music. Other entities say they have more important things to do than worry about these unimportant issues. All offenses should be important. Police are not getting paid to filter out traffic problems as to whether it's important enough or too time consuming to cite, but to serve the public.

If you think one apple is rotten, get rid of all the rotten apples at the same time.
