Argument cited in man's death

A 59-year-old man was shot to death Thanksgiving day while walking near Eastern Avenue and Desert Inn Road, police said.

The man was in the 1700 block of Golden Arrow Drive about 4 p.m. when another man pulled up in a car, got out and started arguing with him, said Lt. Tom Monahan of Metro Police. The two men had a long-standing disagreement, he said.

David Earl Reed, 61, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, police said.

The victim, who police did not identify pending notification of relatives, was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Reed got back into his car after the shooting and drove a short distance to his residence, where police arrested him.

Driver loses control of car

A 21-year-old Henderson driver was killed in a one-car accident Wednesday morning on Russell Road at Kelley Lane near McCarran International Airport.

Police said a motorist traveling west on Russell Road had a green light at the intersection but for an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the car. The car spun and struck a light pole. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, Metro Police said.

No one home at two houses

A fire caused moderate damaged to a northwest Las Vegas home late Thursday.

There were no injuries during the fire that investigators believe was an accident.

Las Vegas fire dispatchers received numerous calls at 5:35 p.m. that a house at 6604 Bills Way near Rainbow Boulevard and Washington Avenue had smoke coming from the roof.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the attic and no one at home. They forced their way inside the home and found flames in a rear bedroom of the one-story stucco house. Damage estimated at $12,000 was confined to the bedroom.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in a television set in the bedroom.

At nearly the same time, firefighters responded to a minor fire in a garage at 1113 Cahill Ave., also near Rainbow and Washington. No one was home. Firefighters found that the blaze started on a workbench in the garage. Damage was estimated at $5,000.

Two men injured on Thanksgiving

One man was in critical condition and another in serious condition at University Medical Center today after an accident on Industrial Road Thursday night.

Jorge Ruiz, 21, of Henderson was traveling south on Industrial in a 1987 Mercury that spun out of control and into the path of a 1989 Honda driven by Antonio Acevedo, 21, of Las Vegas, Metro Police said.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred about 8:30 p.m., police said. The investigation is continuing.

Two robbery suspects jailed

Two robbery suspects were caught after being chased by an armored truck guard they are accused of trying to hold up.

Ventura Villavicencio, 29, and Jassel Villanueva, 19, both of Las Vegas, were booked into the Clark County jail Tuesday on charges of attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Villavicencio was also charged with attempted murder, Metro Police said.

An armored truck was at a Wells Fargo Bank on Russell Road at Arville Street about 5:20 a.m. Tuesday when a masked man and a masked female tried to rob the guards. The man was armed with a gun, police said.

The robbers were unsuccessful, and they fled with a guard chasing them. Villavicencio is accused of turning and firing a gunshot at the guard. The guard returned fire, but neither the suspect nor the guard was hit.
