Letter: Few bright spots in today’s media

Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 | 9:12 a.m.

A few comments to the "press" in general. I don't like you, much less trust you. One worthwhile thing you uncovered was Watergate. The government needs watching all the time. But then you come along and overdo it with President Clinton's affairs instead of the thousands of dollars the government spent on that ridiculous investigation. Revolting!

Once again the time has come to keep on the government with this terrorist threat. President Bush seems to be doing a really good job. I like his resolve, his taking the terrorist problem to the terrorists where they breed. As tragic as the New York horror was, two good things were born out of it. 1) Our wonderful country is united, I'd say, for the first time since Pearl Harbor was bombed. 2) This tiger of a nation has finally awakened.

All journalists aren't part of the mad dog race. I remember Walter Cronkite and Chet Huntley shedding tears on camera when JFK was assassinated. Another I trust is Christiane Amanpour, the chief overseas correspondent for CNN. What I can't stomach is that "pretty boy" attitude so many anchors possess. They all sound the same.

One last comment, please. As heartbreaking as the New York tragedy was and will be for many years to come, especially for the families, it still pales to what happened in Kosovo some years back. That's the worst event I've seen since the concentration camps after World War II.
