Schools get cash awards for test scores

Clark County School District teachers and their at-risk schools received a total of $100,000 in cash awards Tuesday from the Nevada Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
The awards were based on scores from testing materials prepared by the district.
Individual awards ranged from $500 to $3,000.
Winners were:
* Highest composite average on a post-test for an individual sixth grade class, $2,500 each: Sandra Whitney, Swainston Middle School; Cynthia Jenkins, Keller Middle School.
* Greatest composite average gain between a pre- and post-test for an individual sixth grade science class, $2,500 each: Jane Burnette, Lyon Middle School; Nancy Kunz, Keller Middle School; Christine Paradiso, Bridger Middle School; Laurie Coffin, Smith Middle School; Tina Gupton, Gibson Middle School; Deanna Kowal, Martin Middle School, Renee Leonard, Cortney Middle School; Shelly Bourque, Keller Middle School, Johanna McClellan-Brass, West Middle School; Jana Shiroky, Von Tobel Middle School; Kelly Wollard, Cannon Middle School; Michelle Gex, Cashman Middle School.
* Greatest composite average gain between a pre- and post-test for an individual sixth grade math class, $2,500 each: Jennifer Drum, Von Tobel Middle School; Jane Young, Brown Middle School; Janice Jensen, Cannon Middle School; Donald Fitzsimons, Robison Middle School; Yvonne Pierce, Gibson Middle School; Douglas Turner, Bridger Middle School; Margaret Landry, West Middle School; Michael Lyons, Robison Middle School; Stanley Lasker, Orr Middle School; Lynn Trell, Sandy Valley Middle School; Kimberly Howell, Von Tobel Middle School.
* Greatest composite average gain between a pre- and post test for all sixth grade math and science classes, $3,000 to principal; $3,000 distributed equally to participating teachers: Katherine Christensen, Mack Lyon Middle School; Kelly Sturdy, Von Tobel Middle School.
* Highest composite average achievement on post-test for an individual seventh grade class, math and science, $2,500 each: Amy Wagner and Alex Aiken, both of Keller Middle School.
Awards also were given to principals of schools that maintained full participation in the program. Each school received $500 for the department that maintained full participation.
