Flu shots resume today

Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 | 9:27 a.m.

The Clark County Health District will resume administering flu shots today to people categorized as "high-risk."

The agency, which had run out of the vaccine, received its remaining shipment of flu vaccine late last week. The Health District had ordered 21,000 doses of the flu vaccine and received it in three shipments.

The high-risk group includes those who are 65 years or older, a person of any age with a chronic illness and pregnant women in their second or third trimester. Once that group is immunized, the remaining doses will be available to the general population. Those who are eligible for free vaccine through Medicare or Medicaid must present an insurance card, health officials said. For those not eligible under their insurance plan the cost is $15 for flu and $20 for pneumonia shots.

The shots will be offered 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Ravenholt Public Health Center, 635 Shadow Lane; East Las Vegas Public Health Center, 560 N.Nellis Blvd.; Henderson Public Health Center, 129 W. Lake Mead Dr.; and North Las Vegas Public Health Center, 1820 E. Lake Mead Blvd.
