Rebels defeat Aztecs in MWC tournament

The UNLV women's volleyball team snapped a six-match losing streak against San Diego State with a 3-2 (30-26, 27-30, 30-22, 22-30, 15-5) victory over the Aztecs in the first round of the 2001 Mountain West Conference Championship at Provo, Utah.

The win is also the first tournament victory for the Rebels since the inception of the conference three years ago.

The Rebels led most of the first game, with only two single-point lead changes in the 30-26 victory. Leiana Oswald, Patricia Assuncao and Blair Wilkes all dropped four kills on the Aztecs in the opening game.

UNLV takes on top-seeded Colorado State today.
