WASHINGTON -- Hewlett-Packard Co.'s proposed $23.9 billion purchase of Compaq Computer Corp. will undergo further antitrust review, extending the waiting period for the purchase to be completed, Hewlett-Packard said in a regulatory filing.
The Federal Trade Commission asked for additional information from both companies under antitrust regulations, Hewlett-Packard said.
The proposed purchase, announced by Hewlett-Packard on Sept. 3, has been criticized by some Compaq and HP shareholders. Some investors say the acquisition may collapse. Compaq has said it is committed to the purchase.
