Cimarron-Memorial grads choose Rebels

Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 | 11:31 a.m.

Two Cimarron-Memorial graduates, pitchers Brad Thompson and Jake Vose, signed with UNLV's baseball team on Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA's week-long early signing period.

Thompson, a sophomore at Dixie College, and Vose, a sophomore at the Community College of Southern Nevada, join Durango outfielder Coltyn Simmons, Basic pitcher Matt Elliott and Cimarron pitcher Matt Wagner in the Rebels' incoming class.

Another Cimarron product, senior pitcher Stephen Russell, verbally committed to Nevada-Reno and is expected to sign with the school later this week.

Also on Wednesday, Silverado's Tyler Coon signed a letter of intent with BYU. The 6-3, 200-pound first baseman/left-handed pitcher, a third-year starter, was a member of the Skyhawks' 2000 state title team.
