Slot machine giant sues competitor

Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 | 10:48 a.m.

Slot machine manufacturing giant International Game Technology sued to stop Idaho Springs, Colo.-based slot machine retrofitter Millennium Gaming Inc. from selling retrofit IGT machines to casinos.

Millenium Gaming President Todd Seymour defended his practice of selling used IGT machines.

"IGT's lawsuit was filed in an attempt to thwart Millenium's inroads on IGT's sales of new machines ... and knowing that our marketing plan foresees upgrading thousands of old IGT machines, IGT realized that casinos will find Millenium's low cost alternative much more attractive than buying expensive new IGT machines."

"As soon as our booth was on the floor of a recent global show, IGT had a platoon of attorneys saying they were going to put us out of business. Millenium believes the lawsuit, which alleges trademark infringement, is a guise for IGT's illegitimate anti-competitive tactics to maintain its monopoly position in the supply of gaming machines to the casino industry," he said.
