Letter: Sealing caves would seal fate
Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 | 8:31 a.m.
The military believes Osama bin Laden, along with top aides and weapons, including missiles, are hidden in caves.
The bombing of the entrances to these caves has proven very ineffective and extremely expensive. I believe a better way would be to seal the entrances by dropping millions of pounds of dirt, rocks, concrete etc. It would be near impossible to remove the debris from the inside.
The electricity in the caves is being supplied by large generators. The generators need air to operate and they emit deadly carbon monoxide. This gas is passed through vents to the outside. We have carbon monoxide detectors; we find the vents and destroy them.
I fully believe this method would devastate our enemy and facilitate an end to this war we are in. In my mind the means would be poetic justice.
