Juan J. Alamo

Juan J. Alamo, 63, of Las Vegas died Sunday. He was born July 17, 1938, in Isabela De Sagua, Cuba. A resident for 27 years, he was a casino supervisor.

He is survived by his wife, Sonia P.; two daughters, Maria A. Hill of Las Vegas and Julieta C. Leon of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Tony Alamo of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Wednesday with a 6 p.m. service in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Additional services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Maria M. Avila

Maria M. Avila, 71, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. A homemaker, she was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Mexico.

She is survived by her husband, Manuel Sr.; four daughters, Magdalena Bosworth and Rosario Reyes, both of Henderson, Patricia Funk of the Philippines and Rebeca Avila of Las Vegas; seven sons, Francisco Avila , Manuel Avila Jr., Jose Avila and Ricardo Avila, all of Las Vegas, Fernando Avila of Granada Hills, Calif., Jesus Avila of Henderson and Roberto Avila of Dallas; three sisters, Carmen Castillo, Gloria Delgado and Estela Guirado, and two brothers, Hector Portillo and Lalo Portillo, both of Mexico; 35 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. service in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 1840 N. Bruce St. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Astra Backman

Astra Backman, 81, of Henderson died Sunday in Jean. She was born June 4, 1920, in Utah. A resident for six months, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Paul; and three daughters, Jill Hessill, Jan Archuleta and Betsy Backman, all of California.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Ventura, Calif. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Robyn K. Ivie Barnhurst

Robyn K. Ivie Barnhurst, 42, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 18, 1957, in Provo, Utah. A resident for 30 years, she was a substitute services clerk for the Clark County School District.

She is survived by her husband, Kelly; one daughter, Amanda Lynn Barnhurst, and her mother, Wanda H. Ivie, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Steve Ivie of Heber City, Utah; and two sisters, Pamela Stock of Layton, Utah, and Dianne Ivie-Zdunzyk of Las Vegas.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the LDS First Ward, 1300 S. Eighth St. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Kim H. Bowman

Kim H. Bowman, 55, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 16, 1946. A resident for five years, he was a warehousing manager.

He is survived by two daughters, Amber and Crystal; and one son, Daniel.

Services will be 6 p.m. Saturday in 4413 Shady Hollow, North Las Vegas. Neptune Society of Nevada, 8570 Del Webb Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Ferdinand Catapano

Ferdinand Catapano, 71, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born June 14, 1930, in Boston. A resident for 22 years, he was a retired clothing cutter for a manufacturing firm and a member of the Massachusetts Clothing Union.

He is survived by his wife, Corrine; two sons, Steven Catapano of Las Vegas and Frank Catapano of Massachusetts; two sisters, Rosemarie Liotine and Teresa Dappolonio, both of Massachusetts; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Wendell Smith Coffman

Wendell Smith Coffman, 87, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born March 9, 1914, in Geary, Okla. A resident for 30 years, he was a self-employed bakery owner.

He is survived by one son, Dr. Dennis Coffman of Nacogdoches, Texas; one sister, Mary Culver of Healdton, Okla.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Wednesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Vivian Cohen

Vivian Cohen, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born July 12, 1924, in Los Angeles. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired bookkeeper for the Jewish War Veterans.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; one son, Ira Cohen of San Francisco; one daughter, Barbara Cohen of Clearwater, Fla.; and two sisters, Eleanor Barbach of Las Vegas and Beverly Katz of Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

The family suggests donations to the Jewish War Veterans, 7155 E. Carey Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89115.

Dale Clark Dauterman

Dale Clark Dauterman, 63, of Las Vegas died Oct. 29 in a local hospital. He was born May 8, 1938, in California. A resident for five years, he was an airline pilot.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia.

Graveside services will be 12:40 p.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Leah C. Havens

Leah C. Havens, 21, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 6, 1980, in Minneapolis. A resident for four years, she was an honors physics student at UNLV.

She is survived by her parents, Paul and Claudia Havens of Lovelock; and two brothers, Andrew Havens of Portland, Ore., and Aaron Havens of Savannah, Ga.

Services will be in Minnesota. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Thomas E. Hutchinson

Thomas E. Hutchinson, 60, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 15, 1941, in Minneapolis. A resident for seven years, he was a retired software engineer, a retired Army master sergeant and Vietnam War veteran and a member of Elks Lodge 1468.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Edwin Thomas Hutchinson of Fortville, Ind., and Forest James Hutchinson of Greenfield, Ind.; one daughter, Jonna Hanna of Anderson, Ind.; one brother, Richard Hutchinson of Lonsdale, Minn.; four sisters, Margaret Fletcher of Morris, Minn., Mary Olson of Apple Valley, Minn., Elizabeth Fabbre of Chicago City, Minn., and Kathy Thunholm of Lake Arrowhead, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3 p.m. until a 5 p.m. vigil Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

David Leon Sr.

David Leon Sr., 58, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born April 14, 1943, in Mexico. A resident for 25 years, he was a cement finisher.

He is survived by his wife, Modesta; four sons, David Leon Jr., Efren Leon, Adrian Leon and Ceasar Leon, all of Las Vegas; five daughters, Anna Louise Leon of Mexico and Alisa Leon, Maria Leon, Glenda Leon and Fabiola Leon Modesta, all of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-6 p.m. Wednesday with a 5 p.m. service in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will follow in Mexico.

Constance Merwin

Constance Merwin, 60, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born June 18, 1941, in Los Angeles. A resident for one year, she was a retired budget director for the Internal Revenue Service and a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.

She is survived by one sister, Diane Lewsader of Las Vegas.

Theodore Michlis

Theodore Michlis, 61, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 16, 1940, in Greece. A resident for six years, he was a cook.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; one daughter, Patti Wollas of Littleton, Colo.; one brother, Antonios Michlis of Greece; and two grandchildren.

Earl Clyde Patterson

Earl Clyde Patterson, 89, of Las Vegas died Nov. 2 in a local hospital. He was born March 17, 1912, in Missouri. A resident for 42 years, he was a salesman and an Army veteran.

He is survived by three sons, Charles A. Patterson, Stanley L. Patterson and Douglas G. Patterson; one daughter, Barbara A. Harmon; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Shirlee J. Rice

Shirlee J. Rice, 76, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Missouri. A resident for 30 years, she was a utilities accountant.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary Hayes, Sharon Rice and Nova Caufild; one brother, Ernie Pyle; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Dorothy J. Shultz

Dorothy J. Shultz, 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa. A resident for 38 years, she was a deputy sheriff for Clark County.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace F.; two sons, Steven T. Shultz of Henderson and Jeffery Shultz of Las Vegas; one sister, Lillie Scott of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be in Iowa.

Shakuntala Verma

Shakuntala Verma, 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. A homemaker, she was born July 1, 1923, in India.

She is survived by her husband, Harish C.; one son, Yogi Varma of India; two daughters, Chhaya Bahl of India and Maya Varma of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Volk

John Volk, 89, of Henderson died Sunday in a local care center. He was born May 12, 1912, in Linton, Ind. A resident for 13 years, he was a retired power plant engineer and a member of the Forresters.

He is survived by one son, Robert Volk of Henderson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Joyce Weinstein

Joyce Weinstein, 67, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born July 10, 1934, in New York. A resident for one year, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Mitchell Weinstein of Las Vegas and Charles Weinstein of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Mary Jane Weinstein of Las Vegas and Samantha Weinstein of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.

Wilbur White

Wilbur White, 71, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Peach Springs, Ariz. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired printer and a Korean War Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one son, Ernest White Kerkvliet of Las Vegas; six other children, all of Phoenix; and numerous grandchildren.

Donald Erle Zook

Donald Erle Zook, 75, of Las Vegas and Pahrump died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born July 28, 1926, in Wyoming. A resident for 59 years, he was a union sheet metal worker, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 88.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilynn; one son, Donald L. Zook of Las Vegas; one daughter, Sherry L. Zook of Wasilla, Alaska; and one grandchild.

A celebration of life will be noon Saturday at 1141 Windsong, Pahrump. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
