Letter: Bush deserves our gratitude
Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001 | 9:02 a.m.
We have all been made aware of our current concerns with terrorism and the possibility of a strike at any given time or place. In the midst of the heightened awareness of our safety and freedom being at stake, I am thankful that we have a president who has risen to the challenge of safeguarding America and the world. We live in very interesting times, and an opportunity has been opened as President Bush has stated that, "Every American is a soldier, and every citizen is in this fight. And I am proud of our country. Our country is united and strong, and we're prepared."
My reason for writing is to show my support for President Bush and to thank him for his handling of the present war. It has been said that we, Americans, are becoming impatient and want this campaign of routing terrorism to be over. It is true that we desire a quick end. But we also, I believe, desire more to live secure in our homes with the ability to regain the continued assurance of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
It would be great to see billboards and posters in storefront windows and homes that state our resolve as Americans on the home front, "We support our troops. We have time, we are patient, and we will be victorious." I believe that it would be so much more supportive of our troops to affirm daily that we are still in the fight with them. The flags brought healing at a time when we were wounded. I believe the billboards and posters say we're standing our ground no matter what. Thank you, President Bush, for accepting the challenge.
