Cox cable lineup gaining new channels, losing others

Cox Communications will debut several new networks on its cable television system Thursday, including the Fox News Network, three religion-oriented networks and two Hispanic networks.
Debuting with Fox will be Brigham Young University Television (BYU-TV), Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), Hispanic Television Network (HTVN) and Galavision.
Cox spokeswoman Stephanie Stallworth said adding the networks will require a number of channel-programming changes, which will affect where viewers will see MTV and Nickelodeon.
Several other channel changes will be made at the same time that are unrelated to the new programming. Stallworth said there have been plans to make the changes for several months.
"We decided to lump the changes all together to make it convenient for the customer to make one big channel change as opposed to several at other times," Stallworth said.
Fox News Network will be seen on Cox cable channel 21, the current home of Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon will move to channel 23, where AMC (American Movie Channel) is located. AMC will shift to channel 78.
Stallworth said ESPN (which is on channel 19) and MTV (seen on channel 30) will trade places -- ESPN will be on 30; MTV on 19.
The Hispanic Television Network will appear on channel 111 for digital cable subscribers, current home of CNN en Espanol. CNN en Espanol will move to channel 63, replacing BRAVO, which will no longer be available. Galavision will appear on channel 62, which is not currently in use.
Also on digital cable, BYU-TV will be on channel 348, EWTN will be on channel 349 and TBN will appear on channel 350.
Stallworth said Cox Communications decided to bring Fox News Network to Southern Nevada because of popular demand.
"(Fox) takes a more conservative look at issues," Stallworth said. "It has been known to offer a different perspective and those perspectives and angles are interesting and supported by a lot of people in Southern Nevada."
Stallworth said BYU-TV is a division Brigham Young University's College of Fine Arts and Communications in Provo, Utah, and offers programming related to the Mormon church.
She said EWTN programs are related to Catholicism and TBN is the world's largest Christian television network.
