Letter: Enforce new airport rules
Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001 | 9:14 a.m.
One of the points Brian Greenspun seemed to make in a recent column is that inadequate airport security was partly responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks.
Although it has not been widely reported by the media, it was not illegal to fly in possession of a box-cutter on Sept. 11. In fact, pocket knives were allowed as well. Now we are not allowed to carry on such items as nail clippers, nail files, tweezers and shaving razors.
Do we really need 28,000 employees added to the federal payroll? A new set of strict regulations governing private security companies could be effective if enforced.
