CARSON CITY -- The Nevada Supreme Court Wednesday issued a public reprimand to Las Vegas attorney John Rogers and placed him on probation for one year because of a number of infractions, including failing to properly supervise a legal assistant in his office.
The court said Rogers had entered into an agreement with Harry Pewitt, who was not licensed to practice law in Nevada. Pewitt was listed as "of counsel" for the firm, and he represented clients in court and performed legal services.
In a violation of the rules, the two who operated Rogers, Pewitt & Associates co-mingled their own money with that of their clients. After the problems were discovered, Rogers dissolved the firm.
In one instance Pewitt was sentenced to 25 days in jail for lying that he was Rogers at a criminal court hearing.
One condition of the probation is that Rogers undergo counseling for alcohol abuse. He admitted he had two DUI convictions.
