Metro stores ammo at other sites

Metro Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are storing ordnance in different locations after a fire destroyed a northeast Las Vegas facility on Oct. 28.
The two agencies maintained a bunker at the Metro Police firing range, 3700 E. Carey Ave., but the facility was destroyed when a magazine, a safe-like storage unit in which ordnance is placed, exploded and caught on fire.
Metro Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Darcy said that Metro has other bunkers that it uses to store ammunition, ordnance and other equipment.
"We have other bunkers, but we don't reveal the locations because of security," Darcy said.
The ATF has contacted Nellis Air Force Base about using some space on the base to store explosives. Eventually, the ATF plans to build a new bunker, but it has yet to identify a site, said Keith Heinzerling, Las Vegas resident agent in charge.
