Citizens can offer suggestions for bus service during public hearings

Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001 | 8:32 a.m.

Bus riders have until next month to make suggestions on proposed changes to 11 Citizen Area Transit routes.

The Regional Transportation Commission held a public meeting Tuesday at the Community College of Southern Nevada Charleston Campus for people to review modifications to bus routes 105, 203, 205, 206, 207, 208, 212, 216, 217, 401 and 801. The changes will take effect March 24 next year.

Two additional public meetings will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clark County Health District, 625 Shadow Lane. The second meeting is scheduled 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at Gibson Library, 280 Water St., in Henderson.

For more information, call CAT at 228-7433 or the RTC at 676-1500.

People who live on Oakey Boulevard between Cimarron Road and Rainbow Boulevard will lose CAT services entirely because that route is the "weakest financially," Martyn James, senior planner of the RTC, said.

A new bus route is planned for the fast-growing Summerlin area. The 404 route will begin at Westcliffe Drive and Rainbow Boulevard, run west to Summerlin Hospital on Town Center Drive, then south to Palo Verde and Faith Lutheran high schools, then loop back east to the Sahara West Library until finally ending at Desert Breeze Park.

"This will provide service to an area that never had access to bus services and a place that is showing a tremendous amount of growth," James said.

A new express route that stops only at major intersections is proposed for Eastern Avenue, beginning at Las Vegas Boulevard and Civic Center Drive, and ending at Sunset Road.
